The Hobart Shakespeareans Travel to England for a Trip of a Lifetime
The Hobart Shakespeareans ended a decade and began a new one in the United Kingdom. From Stratford-upon-Avon to London, the students spent 14 thrilling days at Henley Street, Abbey Road, world class museums and historic palaces.
Sir Ian McKellen took the class out to dinner at his pub, The Grapes, and then back to his house for an unforgettable party. We are all grateful to Jan Miller, who made these two weeks possible. Enjoy the pictures featuring the happiest kids on Earth.
The Yesterday and Today Adventure
In July 2018, the Hobart Shakespeareans took the most extensive trip in their long history.
The students spent 26 days in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. The kids visited great universities, studied United States History, celebrated literature, embraced art, and had the time of their lives.
Oregon Shakespeare Festival 2017
The Hobart Shakespeareans spent two weeks at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in July 2017. They received a standing ovation for their jaw-dropping performance of Acting Shakespeare for the Green Show.
Founding Fathers Adventure 2017
In June 2017, the Hobart Shakespeareans went on an amazing journey to South Dakota and Pennsylvania to study United States History and tour colleges.
John Steinbeck Adventure 2017
To get the new year off to a great start, The Hobart Shakespeareans spent a week on a California Adventure.
The students read five novels by Steinbeck, including The Pearl, Of Mice and Men, Cannery Row, Travels with Charley, and The Grapes of Wrath. Individually, the kids read Cup of Gold, Tortilla Flat, Once There Was A War, and East of Eden.
Oregon Shakespeare Festival 2016
In July 2016, The Hobart Shakespeareans spent a wonderful week at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
The students spent a year in preparation, even reading Great Expectations in its entirety to get ready for a terrific production. The kids voted Hamlet and Richard II as their favorite shows they saw. In addition to watching five productions, the Shakespeareans had time for soccer, swimming, brass rubbing, and enjoying summer days in beautiful Lithia Park.
Hobart Shakespeareans at Arlington National Cemetery
In November 2014, the Hobart Shakespeareans spent the day at Arlington National Cemetery. They placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Thank you to all our supporters for making such meaningful days possible.
Washington DC 2014
The Hobart Shakespeareans spent Thanksgiving in Washington D.C. One of the highlights was the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery.
Oregon Shakespeare Festival 2014
The Hobart Shakespeareans made their annual pilgrimage to Ashland, Oregon this summer for twelve glorious days.
The kids saw seven plays. Their favorites were Richard III, Into the Woods, The Cocoanuts, and The Comedy of Errors. They also found time to swim, play sports, laugh a lot, and even get to travel to Crater Lake National Park.
Life on the Mississippi
In August, The Hobart Shakespeareans traveled to Hannibal and St. Louis, Missouri to pursue their study of Mark Twain and American History.
An Amazing Night in No Man's Land
Not all nights are created equal. The Hobart Shakespeareans spent Labor Day weekend in San Francisco and Berkeley.
They attended a performance of Harold Pinter's No Man's Land at the Berkeley Repertory Theater with Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Billy Crudup, and Shuler Hensley.
Oregon Shakespeare Festival 2013
The Hobart Shakespeareans made their annual pilgrimage to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in June and July.
They watched 8 plays, read Alice Walker's classic The Color Purple, swam, played, and had a wonderful time. The favorite plays of the group this summer were A Streetcar Named Desire, The Taming of the Shrew, and Two Trains Running.
Travels With John Steinbeck
After a year of reading four novels by John Steinbeck, the Hobart Shakespeareans spent eight exciting days in Salinas and Monterey.
California Dreaming became a reality!
New York City/Boston Adventure!
In July 2012, The Hobart Shakespeareans spent sixteen unforgettable days in New York City and Boston.
The students toured colleges, learned about US History, and also found time to study Mark Twain, Louisa May Alcott, and Henry David Thoreau.

In August 2012, the Hobart Shakespeareans made their annual pilgrimage to Ashland for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Their favorite productions this year were Henry V and the hilarious Animal Crackers.
Yosemite National Park
For a week of June 2012, The Hobart Shakespeareans followed John Muir's advice and hiked all over Yosemite National Park.
Room 56 Ends 2011 With a Flurry of Excitement!!!
The Hobart Shakespeareans ended 2011 on several high notes.
A wild Halloween party, a wilder Thanksgiving celebration, and the craziest Christmas Casino this side of Las Vegas were capped off with a fabulous week in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia.
Thanksgiving In Washington D.C.
During the week of Thanksgiving, the Hobart Shakespeareans spent eight days in Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania.
They learned about American government and the history of their country. From Independence Hall to Gettysburg to the Capitol Building, the children had an experience they will never forget.
Black Hills Adventure!!!
In July, the Hobart Shakespeareans journeyed to the Black Hills in South Dakota. Their adventures took them from the bottom of Mount Rushmore to the top of Crazy Horse Mountain.
